La Sélection de Marc 3 - Weekly selection of the Alliance Française French Film Festival

Written by Marc | Thu, Feb 28, 2019

Every week, we share our "movie of the week", selection made by Marc, our Cultural Assistant and cinema enthusiast. The selection is made from the line-up for the Alliance Française French Film Festival. Here is our third selection!

The Sisters Brothers by Jacques Audiard

It's not what it seems...

It sounds like a Hollywood film with American actors (John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, Jake Gyllenhaal), but it is made by a French multi-awarded director : Jacques Audiard. And indeed, we recognize the French director’s touch in the story and the characters who, when they have to face their responsibility and the violence that surrounds them, decide to take charge of things and reveal another aspect of their personality.

Jacques Audiard: awarded Best Director at the Césars (French Oscars)

There is a beautiful (and awarded) cinematography, with an extraordinary work of the director of photography. The first scene for instance is absolutely brilliant: it is dark in the large landscape of Far West, we only hear a guy shouting “we are the Sisters Brothers !’, then flashlights of shotguns and silence again. In one shot are associated intensity and a breathtaking image, the perfect combination of rhythm and  beauty.
